
2005 - The company is formed as a gasification development enterprise. Initial concentration examines a full spectrum of gasification technologies and business opportunities.
2006 - Exclusive focus on in-situ coal gasification begins mid-2006 and leads to a series of activities to secure coal resources in Alberta.
2007 – The year commences with preliminary engineering and design work on the demonstration project. Throughout the remainder of that year the management and project team is developed and work progresses on the Swan Hills ISCG demonstration project.
2008 - Development work and preliminary engineering begins on Swan Hills ISCG/Sagitawah Power Project in the Swan Hills area in parallel with project execution activities on the Demonstration Project.
2009 - Swan Hills Synfuels submits a full project proposal for the Swan Hills ISCG/Sagitawah Power Project and is short-listed as part of Alberta’s Carbon Capture and Storage Fund Program. Current focus remains on both the Demonstration Project and advancement of the Swan Hills ISCG/Sagitawah Power Project. In June, the Demonstration Project successfully commenced operations.
July 2009 marked the completion of the first phase of Demonstration Project, resulting in a range of measurable successes to assist in future development stages of the commercial project. On December 1, 2009 it was announced a letter of intent had been signed between the Province of Alberta and Swan Hills Synfuels for $285 million in funding from the Carbon Capture and Storage Fund.
